The USDA Rural Development is committed to fulfilling the president and Congress’ goal of bringing affordable broadband to all rural Americans. Broadband is a transformative technology allowing rural communities to dramatically enhance their quality of health and education. This program has over 100 loans in 40 states totaling over $1.22 billion serving well over 1,300 communities and in excess of 600,000 subscribers. In addition to traditional designs, these networks comprise a number of different architectures such as FTTH (Fiber to the Home) and HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coaxial).
Fiber optic and Broadband networks are designed with Blue Diamond’s HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) Conduit to house and protect their cables from damage. By building a network with HDPE conduit, the service provider can install his cable of choice, knowing it is protected from damage. Additionally, if the cable ever needs to be replaced they have a clear pathway to pull in another cable without the tremendous cost of excavation. Underground systems are also more aesthetically pleasing and less susceptible to damage from storms. Tree trimming to prevent damage to aerial cable is a major maintenance expense.
